CFP 2026-27 Schedule Announced: Key Dates and Notre Dame’s Prospects

Anticipation is building for the next college football season, and Notre Dame fans have plenty to buzz about. The Fighting Irish are looking for another run at the College Football Playoff (CFP), and now the 2026-27 bracket is out there for everyone to dissect.

This time around, Notre Dame’s hoping to dodge another playoff snub and maybe even snag a first-round bye. If they don’t, well, the first game’s going to be on the higher seed’s campus—should be a wild atmosphere and, honestly, a pretty great way to start things off.

The Road to the College Football Playoff

Notre Dame’s been a force in college football for ages. This year, the roster looks strong and balanced, so there’s real hope for a deep CFP run.

The playoff action kicks off Friday, Dec. 18th at 7 p.m. CDT with one game. Then, three more games follow on Saturday, Dec. 19th, starting at 11 a.m. CDT.

First-Round Matchups

Teams in the first round will battle it out on the higher seed’s turf. That’s a big advantage for those teams, and it just feels different than a neutral site, doesn’t it?

Fans can expect some fierce games as everyone fights for a spot in round two. It’s going to get intense quickly.

Second-Round Showdowns

Now, the second round is where things really get interesting. The VRBO Fiesta Bowl, Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl, Goodyear Cotton Bowl, and the Rose Bowl are all hosting these games.

The Fiesta Bowl gets things started on Wednesday, Dec. 30th. After a brief pause, the rest of the bowls pick up on Friday, Jan. 1st, with action beginning at 11 a.m. CDT.

Prestigious Bowl Games

These bowls aren’t just games—they’re part of college football lore. The Fiesta Bowl leads off, then it’s a full slate on New Year’s Day.

Fans are in for a day packed with big moments and, probably, a few surprises. It’s the kind of football you just can’t miss.

Semifinals and Championship

The semifinals are set for Thursday, Jan. 14th, and Friday, Jan. 15th. The Capital One Orange Bowl and the Allstate Sugar Bowl will host, both kicking off at 6:30 p.m. CDT.

Final Four

These games decide who gets to play for it all. The Orange Bowl and Sugar Bowl always bring the energy, and you can bet this year will be no exception.

Every team left will be desperate for a shot at the national title, so expect some fireworks.

Championship Game in Las Vegas

Everything leads up to the championship on Monday, Jan. 25th, with a 6:30 p.m. CDT start. This year’s title game lands at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.

That stadium is something else—a fitting place for the season’s biggest showdown.

A Grand Finale

Vegas is all about spectacle, so it’s a perfect match for college football’s grand finale. The championship should be a wild, high-energy contest, with fans from everywhere converging to see history play out.

Mark Your Calendars

The CFP schedule is packed—over a month of can’t-miss football, from Dec. 18th all the way to Jan. 25th. There’s something for everyone, and the stakes just keep rising as the weeks go by.

Notre Dame fans, especially, will be hoping their team sticks around until the very end. Guess we’ll see how it all shakes out.
